Worth knowing
Wedding and engagement gifts
Thai weddings often run to two events — a morning ceremony with the family and an evening reception — and gifts are handled differently at each. Knowing which one you’re sending to changes what makes sense.
If you can’t attend, a gift arriving on the morning of the ceremony is the warmest thing you can do. It says you knew the date and thought about it, which is most of what anyone wants from a guest who couldn’t make it.
Sending to the couple
For a wedding, something the couple keeps works better than something consumed. Flowers are lovely on the day but a keepsake outlasts it, and by the evening there are usually more bouquets in the room than vases.
For an engagement, the reverse holds — it’s a lighter occasion and flowers with something sweet suit it well. Save the substantial gift for the wedding itself.
Timing and venues
Send to the venue only if you’re certain of the timing, because nobody is checking reception on a wedding morning. Sending to the family home the day before, or to the couple a few days after, is far more reliable.
Hotel weddings are the exception — hotels handle deliveries well, so give us the hotel, the couple’s names and the event name and it will find them.
Questions about this occasion
What should I send for a Thai wedding?
Something the couple keeps rather than something consumed — a keepsake, jewellery, or a substantial arrangement with a keepsake included. By the reception there are usually more flowers in the room than places to put them.
Can you deliver to a wedding venue in Pattaya?
Yes, and hotels handle it best. Give us the venue, the couple’s names and the event name. If it’s at a family home, sending the day before is more reliable than on the morning itself.
What’s appropriate for an engagement rather than a wedding?
Something lighter. Flowers with chocolates or prosecco suit an engagement well — it’s a celebration rather than a formal occasion, and the bigger gift belongs at the wedding.
